How to clean tar from clothes - the best ways

How to clean tar from clothes

An alarm wakes up in my eyes when you see fresh drops of tar on a new jumper. But you just have to wander through the spruce forest or chop coniferous trees for firewood. You can still save a little thing if you know how to clean the tar from clothes at home.

The main thing in such situations is not to do stupid things.

  • Do not throw soiled clothing into the washing machine.
  • Do not smear the dirt.
  • Do not heat.

Follow the instructions:

  1. Preliminary cleaning.
  2. Initial cleaning using household methods.
  3. Chemical cleaning.

If the pollution is not very serious, chemicals will not be needed.

Preliminary processing

Fresh resin

Remove excess drops to avoid being absorbed into the fabric.

  • Remove the drop with a knife or spoon.

In order not to smudge, remove the resin with gentle movements, being careful not to rub.

  • Freeze the cloth for a couple of hours.

After freezing, the resin will become brittle and peel off easily. Rub the surface and remove it.

Such mechanical methods are suitable for fresh contaminants and are not used if:

  • thin cloth;
  • delicate thing;
  • woolen product.

Use one method or both. Traces remain after mechanical cleaning. This is not scary: the main thing we did was to prevent the liquid from spreading over the surface. If you need to remove old pollution, use folk remedies.

Folk remedies for cleaning tar from clothes

Resin on the tree

Fabric Preparation:

  • Lay a cloth or attach for convenience to the plank.
  • Brush off dust and dirt.
  • Dampen the area around the stain with water, talc, starch or oil. This will not allow the dirt to spread further.

Petrol

We need: refined gasoline, baby soap, water and a bowl.

  1. Stir in equal amounts of gasoline and soap in a bowl.
  2. Spray the solution and wait an hour.
  3. Rinse the product for three minutes until the composition is washed off with the resin.
  4. Machine wash.

Alcohol or acetone

We need: cotton pads and alcohol (acetone is also suitable). Medical alcohol is suitable for fur products.

  1. Soak the disk with alcohol.
  2. Wet the stain with a disc for half an hour until it disappears.
  3. Machine wash.

Lemonade

For light things, colorless soda is suitable.

  1. Pour liquid onto the dirt and wait half an hour.
  2. Rinse.
  3. If traces of tar disappear, wash in a typewriter.

Milk

  1. Pour milk onto the stained area.
  2. Hold for about an hour, then rinse in cold water.

We need: vegetable or butter and alcohol. The method is suitable for leather things.

  1. Drizzle oil over cheesecloth.
  2. Wipe off.
  3. Remove residue with alcohol.
  4. Wash.

Iron

We will need: turpentine, iron and paper towels (napkins or toilet paper).

  1. Saturate the stain with turpentine, put on a cloth napkins.
  2. Heat the iron and run it over the napkins. The heated resin is absorbed.
  3. Repeat several times until the contamination is completely dissolved.
  4. Machine wash.

  1. Combine the three ingredients in a bowl.
  2. Put the mixture on the problem place and wait for it to dry.
  3. Wipe the stain with a brush and wipe off the slurry mixture.
  4. Wash clothes, dry and ventilate in the open air.

Useful Tips

  • Do not rub, heat, rinse the resin with water or put the thing in the washing machine without first cleaning!
  • Wipe in several steps.
  • Do not use gasoline for cleaning!
  • Choose the product according to the type of fabric, so as not to spoil the clothes.
  • Rinse clothes after each procedure.
  • Keep the resin dry: it’s more difficult to remove.
  • Gently apply and rub in slowly. If the stain is small, it is better to use a pipette.
  • Wear rubber gloves and open the windows in the apartment.
  • Fresh marks are easier to wipe.
  • The more resin you remove before using solvents, the easier it is to deal with contamination.
  • Clean from the inside so as not to spoil the clothes with chemicals.

Be careful, study the type of fabric! If the pollution is on silk, and you use acetone, a hole is formed.

Do not forget about safety measures to prevent chemicals from getting on your skin. Do not drip the peeled resin onto other things.

After applying chemicals, alcohols, gasolines and other liquids, clothing acquires a characteristic odor. Therefore, rinse things thoroughly and wash in the machine using an air conditioner.

Be careful when near conifers. It is better to prevent the appearance of spots than to waste nerves and energy on cleaning.
